Fostering Futures Scholarship

About this scholarship

A state scholarship for Michigan students who spent time in foster care, awarded through Michigan's student aid office and applied toward the cost of attending a Michigan college or university. Applicants must also demonstrate financial need.

Who can apply

Applicants must have been in Michigan foster care due to abuse or neglect on or after their 13th birthday.

Every scholarship in this directory is exclusively for current or former foster youth. Read the sponsor’s own eligibility rules before you start — they decide who qualifies.

How to submit your application

1. 1. Check the deadline. Thursday, December 31, 2026.
2. 2. Gather your documents. Use the checklist to the side so you are not scrambling at the last minute.
3. 3. Open the sponsor’s application. The button below takes you straight to State of Michigan — MI Student Aid. Your application is submitted there, directly to them.
4. 4. Save your confirmation. Keep the confirmation email or reference number, and follow up with the sponsor if you do not hear back.
